Recently, I published a post showing how the same outfit could look so different just by changing the one accessory – your Miche shell. Today I want to show you how just changing one of your accessory’s accessories, – your bag’s handles – can really change the look and feel of the whole purse. Your guessed it! It’s Miche dress up time! :) (And don’t forget – all Miche fashion handles, straps and carabiner rings are on sale for 20% off now through March 31st while supplies last!)

Clearly, I could use photography classes, but these pix will demonstrate my point. I have taken one of my favorite shells and want you to see how changing the way you carry her and the fashion handle(s) you use can make such a difference.

Here you see one of my favorite shells. Miche Demi Joella has it all. She is playful, dramatic and take charge all at once. This is a statement making purse for certain, but one with whimsy, attitude and panache.

What is not to love? Her animal print makes her a neutral, but the vibrant red gives a rakish splash of color. In a word – she’s fabulous!

But as you can see from my photo above, the look is really changed when you convert her from being carried with two handles, to just one attached through the grommets at each end. For this rounded-bottom shaped bag, carrying her with one strap is called “hobo-style”. I like the hobo-style for my Demi, and when I use this handle style, I like to use a 1.5-inch carabiner at each end, to which I attach the 1-inch carabiner ring of the handle I am using. I like the look of the larger ring tapering to the smaller ring and then smaller to the handle itself. It also lends a bit of length that I find comfortable for carrying her over my shoulder.

Above, you see how the Miche Black Rope Fashion Handle gives a more refined look to the sassy Joella – almost a touch of elegance. Beautiful!

But with a quick flick of the carabiner rings, we get a much edgier look for Miss J by replacing the rope handle with the Silver Interchangeable Chain Handles and their black strap. Now the lines are harder, and the look is bolder. This is the fiercer look of the two. See how well one of my dearest friends rocks this look below:

These two looks above have been my preferred ways to style Joella since I first met her, until a chance remark from one of my customers got me thinking about how to make this fabulous shell look a bit more spring-like. Meet a whole new look for Miss Jo:

Getting the idea was harder than making the change! I slipped the Miche Cream Interchangeable Strap into the place of the black strap above – and look what a difference it makes! Instead of playing off the darker colors, the cream strap works beautifully to accent the creamy parts of the playful giraffe print, and presto – a perfectly chic, on-trend purse for spring 2013! This look is more light-hearted than the one with the black strap above, but every bit as fun!

So of course, I then just had to try the Cream Braided Handles. While I prefer the Cream Strap with the Silver Chains above, it is only fair to tell you that my husband prefers the look with the braided handles. He likes the feel of these handles (as if comfort ever matters in fashion!) but he also makes a good point. He thinks the texture of the braiding in the handle really plays off of the complexity in the pattern of the animal print – and I think he’s right. The rivets in the Cream Braided Handle are an antique brass, and the name plate of the shell is silver. I don’t see the rivets’ color as a problem with this combination, but wanted you to be aware of it in case it would make a difference to you.

How To Accessorize New Miche Holiday Snowflake Shells!

Miche’s new Holiday shells, the Snowflakes, are so charming – I can’t wait to get them! Let’s see how Miche is accessorizing them, and I’ll point out changes I plan to make. The first thing to recognize about accessorizing the lovely new Holiday shells from Miche, is that the Snowflake really doesn’t need any embellishment. They are lovely just as they are – as seen above. They make the perfect companion for any outing and will complement jeans and a tee-shirt as well as a dancing dress just as they are.

That being said, and genuinely meant, you all know how much I love to dress up my Miche bags! And using the fashion handles to give them a different style and feel is my favorite approach!

To the right, you will see that Miche is styling the Snowflake shells beautifully, and adding fashion handles that complement the design of the bags.

On the left, the Classic Snowflake ($24.95) is shown with the Miche Black Rope Handles - one of my all-time favorite accessories! This allows the Classic to be worn comfortably over the shoulder and lends greater texture and refinement to the look. This is a beautiful selection, and one I would use and recommend for all three sizes.

I know what you are thinking – that the rope handles are too large for the Petite? You are wrong! Not only do they nicely complement the Petite Skylar left ($18.95) – another fabulous choice for a winter Petite shell – but they make the handle more substantial feeling. In my view, with the Miche Black Rope Handle ($19.95), the Petite seems more like a woman’s small purse, and less like a little girl’s purse – just my opinion.

So – while I do love my black rope handles, and think they would be just as great on the Demi and the Petite as they look on the Classic above – they are not – quite – what I would choose…

I have gone back and forth on whether to use the Pewter Rope Handles ($19.95) or the black with the silver Miche Demi Kinsley ($34.95) (shown left) To a degree, I suppose it depends upon my outfit, but I think for the wintry Snowflake shells, I will use these silver rope handles instead of the black. It could go either way, but I’ll show you below the look that has inspired me.

The only other, but important note, I have for making your Classic Snowflake look her very best is the pockettes.

In my view, the Pockettes available in black or brown (but should be black for the Snowflake shell) are a must have for any Classic lover! They add additional storage to any fold-over style Classic shell like the silver Miche Classic Cinthia ($29.95) shown right, but just as important – they give a finished and refined look to the ends of the Classic bag that is missing with the fold over shell. Viewed straight on, the pockettes do not bulge or show, leaving the straight, clean lines of the Classic we all know and love. But the storage added is wonderful, and the finished look to the ends of the bag is truly necessary in my view. For $12.95, any Classic fold-over shell now has added storage and refinement. Simply slide the Pockettes over the Classic base before adding the shell, and Voila! Fashion magic! :) BTW – Won’t Cinthia be fabulous for the holidays?

Now we come to the Miche Demi Snowflake ($34.95), pictured right. I know I just said the Rope Handles in Black or Pewter would be great for the Demi, but I also really like the use of the Silver Interchangeable Chain Handles ($24.95) with the black strap. The shine off the links is lovely, and a particularly nice accent for the wintry-grey shell and the snowflake flurries.

I like to carry my Demi with one handle attached to a 1.5-inch carabiner at each end, “hobo-style”, as you see with the Demi Kinsley above. I would use the same attachment for the rope handles or the chain – the extra carabiner causes the rope or strap to easily lie straight relative to the bag. My decision of rope or chain handle would depend upon which better complements the design of the specific shell

Although I would use the Black or Pewter Rope Handle for the Petite Snowflake ($14.95) , you can see that Miche has styled it with the Petite Long Handle ($5.95). I must admit that I do like the elegance of the long lines of that handle, and the look of the Petite carried at your hip.

OK – now we come to the last consideration for accessorizing any Miche bag – to charm or not to charm?

Normally, I am inclined to add a charm to the shells with no pattern, and leave the charm off the shells with a pattern. I don’t want to risk “gilding the lily” by adding an embellishment that will only compete with the design of the shell itself. But somehow, in this case, perhaps because it is for the holidays, or because of the snowflake theme – I think adding the snow-white Miche purse charmer Taffy will just enhance the over all effect. To the right, you can see the fabulous combination made by the silver Demi Kinsley shell, the Pewter Rope Handles and the Taffy charmer ($12.95). When I imagine the Snowflake purse in person – I think the effect will be even better with the darker shade of the shell and the cheery snowflake pattern.

Miche and Me About Town – Demi Margaret in a Beautiful Garden!

Oh my goodness, I work so hard! Look at the beautiful spot Miche Demi Margaret and I stopped to take in the day on our way to meet a client.

Isn’t she lovely… Isn’t she won-der-ful… Oops! I once promised I wouldn’t sing on my blog, didn’t I? Sorry about that! But take one look and you’ll see why I was so inspired! :)

On our way to visit a client in beautiful coastal Carlsbad, we just had to take a moment to enjoy the day. Miche Demi Margaret was looking her lovely best, with a single Black Rope Handle attached hobo-style, with a 1.5 inch silver carabiner at each end. The floral Miche Purse Chermer Taffy was just a happy – and pretty – coincidence!

I know you think I’m crazy, but every time I see that perky little bow tie on Margaret’s teal shell, I think she is smiling at me. Do you see it? If you don’t believe me, find out for yourself. Miche Luxe Almost Here! Classic Base Sale + Free Purse Charm!

The Miche Luxe line is almost here! Are you excited? Are you ready?

I am hearing from many of you how excited you are about the new Miche Luxe shells, and the plans you are making to ensure you will get your favorite(s) before they sell out. Fabulous Fall Fashions: Miche Bags w/ Fearless Purse Charms!

Do you love fall fashion? Or are you sad to see the light colors and florals of spring go into storage? I must admit that I enjoy the drama and inherent sensuality of fall fashions as much as I love the fun and flirty side of spring.

If you are surprised to see fall described as dramatic, you need to re-think the concept. Fall clothing doesn’t mean everything is dark and sober. Colors do tend to be deeper and richer in fall, but you must look to find the sultry and mysterious. Don’t settle for dull!

Miche Demi Myranda beguiles in lush plum tones and generous pleating details. Her antique brass name plate makes her a sophisticated choice for the interchangeable handles and antique brass chains. Use either the black or the brown strap, as best coordinates with your outfit.

Black always lends itself to drama. Miche Demi Eve is a particular favorite of mine with the multiple textures introduced by the intricate cording detail, the weaving and the gathers of her super soft faux leather.

The layers so popular in fall – and so functional! – allow a greater interplay of patterns and textures, affording more opportunity to express your individuality. I further enhance the many textures of Eve by carrying her with a single Black Rope Handle attached to the silver chains of the Interchangeable Handles. The rope handle plays off the cording perfectly, and I like the elegance of the silver chains.

There is plenty of rich color to be found in fall, along with those oh-so-soft and cuddly sweaters, and hair worn down, long and loose and so bewitching.

Miche Demi Clover in deep, bronze kissed teal again lets the color and the texture do the talking. Sweeping gathers create ripples of teal and shadows. I still have not decided whether to carry her with the Black Rope Handles – you know how much I love them! – or the Interchangeable handles with the silver chains. Which will you use?

If touchably soft sweaters appeal to you, but you prefer the earth tones and neutral shades of fall, you might enjoy the play of patterns of the Demi Renae in a faux snake-skin pattern of taupe and cream. She definitely makes a statement!

For the outfit to the left, I would keep the embellishments minimal, just swapping the silver toned carabiners for those in antique brass, available separately. To go all out with Renae, I would use the Interchangeable antique brass chains with the black straps.

So incredibly chic!

Sometimes fabulous color and rich texture are all you need to stand out. Rich, candied raspberry tones and intricate texture make this outfit a show stopper. Miche Classic Lillian with her croc-textured faux leather is a perfect complement to this intricately textured berry dress, and a real pop of color to any outfit in neutral shades. I may in fact be addicted to playing with the handles! I would carry Lillian with the Black Rope Handles. Texture upon texture is wonderful while the colors remain solid and simple.

And a bold pattern is its own type of visual texture to add to solid colors. Did you know that animal prints are now considered a fashion neutral? Both for clothing and interior design, the animal print has become a lasting statement of chic, that will go with just about anything, and make it look even better. What a joy!

Miche Demi Kendra with her faux leopard print in shades of rich brown is a perfect accent for this fun dress accessorized in natural textures and brown tones.

We will be seeing a lot of leather, and leather looks this fall. Not just for purses, shoes, belts and jackets, you will see leather-look pants, shirts, skirts, dresses, camisoles and more. Clearly not for the timid – but why be shy? This fall, we are going to be Fearless!

The reason this look with Miche Demi Joella works so well is that purple is an analogous color on the color wheel to red. Color theory can get very technical, but the bottom line is that purple is right next to red on the color wheel, and therefore they make a harmonious combination. Keeping the red as an accent color, and relying on the giraffe print as a neutral with pizzazz, we can pull together strong colors, the hottest trends and still make a bold statement of individual personality and style!

I hope you now see fall fashions in a new and beautiful light!

Let’s take a look at ways to accessorize the new Fearless shells, and also how the new handles can dress up an old favorite.

Long time readers will know of my love affair with animal prints. Miche Demi Kendra is absolutely fabulous! The oversized rivets and the clasp on her front strap are in the rich, antique brass tones used throughout the Fearless line, and they are set off beautifully by the Interchangeable Handles with antique brass chains. I used the black strap with Kendra to pick up the black of her front belt detail and the banding at the top. I also have more black in my wardrobe. The brown strap is just as lovely with the brass chains and Kendra’s leopard print - I would recommend it if you wear more earth tones. Remember – with the Interchangeable Handles, you get both a set of 2 grained black straps and a set of 2 croc textured brown straps. Kendra has a lovely sheen, but is not “shiny”

Miche Demi Eve is utterly chic, simply sophisticated and I just love her! To set off her intricate weaving and cording detail, I am carrying her with the Black Rope Handles attached to 2 of the silver chains from the set of Interchangeable Handles. Although I usually use a 1.5″ carabiner ring to attach the handle when I carry the Demi hobo-style, in this case, I found the length to be best when I attached just the chains and rope handles without the additional carabiner. Below, you have a

close up of that wonderful weaving and cording detail I have written about. The cording has a twisted texture that goes beautifully with the Black Rope Handle. The gentle gathers along each side just add to Eve’s easy glamour. The purse charm shown is a Kat’s Kreations in black, white and silver, but I have also enjoyed using the Miche Taffy charmer all in white. Perfect for when I am wearing all black and white. There are no side pockets for Eve, but she does have a zippered back pocket.

As much as I love the new Interchangeable Handles with the new shells, they also really dress up those I already have! Below, I want to show you two ways of using the antique brass to light up an old flame:

To the right, you see one of my favorite Classic shells, the Miche Raquel with the brown straps and antique brass chains of the Interchangeable Handles. The abstract animal print (what else?) of Raquel gleams with gold and bronze and copper tones set off to perfection by the antique brass chains.

Perhaps you prefer the shorter handles of the Classic, making it a true handbag. Or simply want to enjoy the new options but need to keep the budget in check. When first looking at the August 2012 Miche collection, before you really see the wonderful details or really take in the clever hardware and the edgy styling points you are immediately immersed in color. Rich shades, many hues, and lots of lush color. In my previous article, I focused on some of the fabulous patterns to be found in the collection. Today is about the color palette. This collection is inspired by the rich colors of the African sunset and the wild textures of the Australian Outback: strong yet beautiful. Glorious!

The rich ochre, faux leather of the Miche Prima Breanne, reminiscent of the sunsets over the Kalahari desert, is lightly marbled in its texture. Contrasting black stitching lends interesting shape and slight gathering. The antique brass Miche name plate is a perfect highlight for this shell, like the last glint of the setting sun. $39.95

Rich teal in pebbled faux leather is gathered in lush ripples and folds that catch the light on Miche Demi Clover. Adding to the color depth of this bag, there is a feather-light rubbing of bronze that seems almost hand done. Miche Demi Myranda, shown left with the Interchangeable handles with antique brass chains, is a luscious color of plum flavored with candied raspberries. Her faux leather is lightly marbled in texture, and gathered in multiple generous pleats along the front and sides. Miche Demi Flo is rendered in a glowing goldenrod yellow, contrasted with white stitching in a fanciful diamond pattern. A lovely color for autumn, reminiscent of turning leaves, this is also perfect for spring and summer’s floral tones. $34.95

So pretty for fall with the Black Rope Handles, try the Linked Fashion Handles in White in summer to bring out the decorative stitching.

The black of ebony and obsidian are not bleak, but almost seem to glow with life.
